No. 01 The ground plan
Every site tells you what it wants to be.
We begin on foot — reading grade, ledge, light, and the way water moves — before a single stone is set. On this coast the ground is honest: glacial till, salt wind, granite that surfaces where it pleases. Fighting it is expensive. Listening to it is how a terrace holds the afternoon sun, how a wall retains more than soil, how a garden looks better in year ten than in year one.
Our studio is small by intention. The person who draws your plan is on site when the first course is laid, and back each spring to see how the plantings have taken. That continuity is the whole practice.
No. 02 Selected work
Three sites, three answers.
Padanaram Harbor Terrace
A dining terrace set just above the harbor fog line, its seat wall built from stone lifted out of the site itself. The hedge takes the southwest wind; the bluestone takes the evening light.
Westport River Walk
A path of weathered granite steppers through little bluestem and switchgrass, ending at the river’s edge. Mown once a year; better for it.
Converse Point Courtyard
Reclaimed New Bedford street cobble, fanned in the old manner, with boxwood and hydrangea holding the edges soft. A courtyard that reads as though it predates the house.
